Do I need to know how to kayak?
No. Most of our clients are first time kayakers and at all times you will wear a life-vest. For your peace of mind we also provide you with a briefing about how to kayak prior the excursion. We’ve prepared a quick video for your benefit. To watch the video on how to kayak visit link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=goXdFvJ3xuY&feature=youtu.be
What is the difference between the earlier and later Bio Bay tour?
Earlier Bio Bay tour: Excellent for first time kayakers, families with kids and anyone that really enjoy being close to nature. It is also recommended for guest that might feel uncomfortable with the darkness. As the sun goes down, you’ll be able to enjoy the majestic view of the mangrove forest.
Later Bio Bay tour: Excellent for experienced kayakers. Expect TOTAL darkness. But don’t worry, the kayaks has a little light in the front and in the back so that you can follow it (not to illuminate the whole path). You’ll be able to enjoy the tranquility of the lagoon under the night skies full of stars.
*The bioluminescence is the same on the early and the late tour. We provide these details so you can determine which tour suits your better but please keep in mind if you are unable to complete the tour it is nonrefundable.
Can the Bioluminescence be seen on full moon nights?
Yes, a lot people worry about the moon but the bay is not affected by the moon. Actually, the organisms are attracted by the moon light. What changes is our perception of the brightness. If there is a full moon, we use a brown tent, each kayak will go under the tent, it will block the moon light and you can enjoy the glow as it is.
Are there days when I can see the bioluminescence better than others?
Probably, but no one can say which day the bay will glow better. The bioluminescence is very unpredictable so it’s very difficult to say when the water will glow more because there are a lot of factors that contribute to it.
But no worries, with or without the glow this tour is awesome! We guarantee that you and your family will have a great time. Our guides are marine biologist and because of this they have the knowledge and the experience to provide a fun and educational tour adding more value to this top night attraction.
What does the Bio Bay include?
All required safety equipment, specialized equipment (2 person kayak with backrests, rows and life vest etc.) professional field guides, water & light snacks, bug repellent, kayak “Lesson 101” before the trip, safety orientation, and most of all…a lot of fun!
Do we have to row our own kayaks?
Yes, one of the requirements is that you are able to get in and out of the kayak on your own and be able to maneuver it. If you are an unexperienced kayaker we highly suggest you choose the earlier tour.
On each tour you will be accompanied by professional field guides. Keep in mind that the guides have their own 1 person kayak and will be there to help you if needed.
Are there any health restrictions for participation in kayak trips?
Yes. This excursion is not recommended for people with: recent surgeries, heart conditions, strong asthma, pregnant women, persons taking high blood medication, children under six years, people under alcohol influences, fear of the darkness, or with panic attacks. Also the participants should be able to stay on a seating position for at least two hours. The combined weight for a two-person kayak cannot exceed 400 pounds.
What should I wear?
We recommend swim attire. Come with clothes and shoes that can get wet (you will get completely wet), bring a change of clothes and a towel. We suggest to use bright colors and long sleeve.
What should I bring and not bring?
Bring a change of clothes and a towel because you will get very wet. Do not wear or bring anything that you do not desire to get wet or lost.
Bring extra bug spray, we do provide bug spray but we always recommend you bring some extra just in case.
Is there a good place near to eat after the excursion?
Of course! After the trip, ask to your guide to recommend a local restaurant in the area.
